Wellbeing for you!

Being a parent, especially a first-time parent or with young children, can be challenging and isolating.

Singing has huge mental, physical and emotional benefits, all of which are amplified when you sing as part of a group.

Additionally, Crib Notes Choir offers a supportive and flexible space which you can enjoy with your little one, while also meeting other local parents and creating a community; letting someone else lead for an hour; doing something fun and relaxing; filling your cup so you are able to be your best for your little one. â€‹

Benefits for your little one

Crib Notes Choir is designed to be flexible and supportive so you can bring your little one along and look after them as you need during the session.

There are many bonus benefits for your little one when they join our sessions regularly - including musical, social and general development.

We also find they engage with the music and really enjoy being in the space.

We provide a mat, bring your own toys!

How we work

Crib Notes Choir is a non-auditioned community choir and all parents are welcome regardless of singing and choir experience.

We provide sheet music and/or lyrics for many of our song so you don't have to remember everything, and we teach everything by ear during the session with as much repetition as needed.

Sessions start with a physical and vocal warm up to relax and get present in the space; we often do a quick game to help members connect and get to know each other; we usually teach a round or simple song that we can learn all together and then start to make easy harmony. Then we work on 2 or 3 of our pieces in 3 or 4 part harmony.

Then it's time for tea and chat for those who want to stay and socialise!

Music and Resources

Our usual repertoires is a mix of pop, folk, sea shanty and world music - absolutely no nursery rhymes! The singing is for you, though your little one will love listening and benefit from being in the environment.

We have a members' area on the website with audio tracks and resources for home practice, for those who want to familiarise themselves with the songs at home too - though there is no obligation.

We often hear how much the little ones enjoy hearing the same songs at home too - for some it helps them calm down for sleep, for others they get energised and love to join in!

Performance and social opportunities

One of our biggest aims is that Crib Notes Choir is not simply a singing group but an engaged and supportive community.

So we organise regular socials and relaxed performances to encourage and facilitate our members connecting, sharing mutual singing aims and sense of achievement, and having experiences beyond simply the weekly singing session.

Performances having included singing at the Crystal Palace Bowl with Palace Acappella (see photo opposite); performing for the Friends of the Upper Norwood Recreation Ground Summer Party; and providing entertainment at the Beckenham Place Park and Crystal Palace Food Markets

And MOST importantly...

We want our sessions to be:

- FUN!!

- joyful

- relaxing

- refreshing

- social

- supportive

- enlivening
